Loose Bodies

Small flakes of articular cartilage may shed off into the elbow joint space. After that the osteochondral loose body may grow in size over time because it is well nourished by the normal synovial fluid of your joint. These growing and loose bodies act like small pebbles or stones rolling around in the elbow joint space. At times they will become trapped causing sudden and often intense pains ; these pains then dissipate as the loose body moves again – this time out of the way.

If bothersome they ca be imaged and then retrieved via either keyhole arthroscopic technique or sometimes by an open procedure.
